The Glencoe Parlour Chair

Acquired over ten years ago this French parlour chair. dates from the mid nineteenth century when the Rococo revival sought to repopularise the style of the court of Louis XV. Originally stuffed with straw, a remnant of the original silk top fabric has been retained in one of the small pads to the arms.

The chair was stripped back to its frame which was reinforced to add rigidity before being oiled and refinished. Reupholstered using traditional techniques, the chair retains an open back in the French tradition. The original straw stuffing has been retained to the front of the seat platform. Horsehair has been used in the back and arms while the cushion is stuffed with duck feathers. The hair has been dressed over with cotton wadding, before being encased in calico. The top cover is a polyester chenille, treated with a fire retardant backing to meet current fire regulations.

Please click the ‘Purchase’ button if you are interested in purchasing the chair. We will then contact you to discuss viewing, collection/ shipping and payment options as appropriate.
