The Routledge Sofa by Jonathan Adler

Acquired in London, this Jonathan Adler piece was a much-loved sofa for ten years. Due to a failure of the supporting base fabric, the foam had started to displace into the frame of the sofa, resulting in areas of apparent collapse. The sofa is 2.7m in length and easily seat four.

The sofa was stripped back to its frame. Webbing was added to the back and hessian dressed over both the new webbing and the springs to the seat. This provided the necessary support for the replacement of the foam which was still in perfect condition. A woollen interliner was introduced between the foam and the new top cover to meet current fire regulations. The top cover is a plush velvet from Harlequin Fabrics in a design called Helianthos. The fabric, composed of 83% cotton and only 17% polyester, was both designed and manufactured in the UK.
